Happy Thanksgiving SJA Families!

This week in PE, we explored different underhand movements and throwing skills. We attempted to throw bean bags into a hula hoop, taking a step back if we successfully got the bean bag in the hoop in order to challenge ourselves. We also practiced throwing bean bags up in the air to ourselves and attempted to catch it (with both hands first, then with one hand if we were successful). Students were challenged by throwing bean bags to a partner, having them catch it, and then receiving the pass again. Students of all ages learned the basics of underhand throwing skills and catching and will be introduced to more strategies to be successful in the upcoming weeks.

This coming week, we will be putting these skills to work by recreating a bowling alley in the gym and attempting to knock over pins and pylons. I will challenge students in a team game where large dice will be balancing on pylons around the gym and students will attempt to knock the dice off their opponent's pylons. We will discuss how to be successful with an underhand throw (or roll) and how to achieve better aim.
