Online Learning!

Hello everyone!

Bitmoji ImageI know you have been receiving many e-mails about student work, phone calls, etc. I am creating this blog post so that you can find all of the PE information in one place.

Going forward, your child will follow a YouTube video that I have created [will be ready by Wednesday] to be physically active at home.

There will be some days that your child is asked to be creative with their physical activity. They may choose activities from the following list or create their own activity! (Share with Ms. V! I'd love to see your creativity at home)

·     Run around in the backyard or basement
·      Kick a ball around the house [be careful!]
·      Find a couple videos on GoNoodle
·      Check out Cosmic Kids Yoga on YouTube
·      Run up and down the stairs
·      Dance or Freeze Dance with your parents or siblings
·      Make your own Dance or Gymnastics routine using what you remember from our unit
·      Bear Walks, Crab walks, Walk backwards, Bunny hops, Frog jumps, etc. down the hallway and back in your home
·      Ms. V’s Instagram Channel - @physedwithmsv
·      Ms. V’s YouTube videos (once posted)

Remember to fill out your Activity Log each day that you engage in an activity!

Keep up the great work (parents, you too!)

March Break!!

Hello everyone!

This week at SJA, we finished up Soccer Assessments and took the week to play Cooperative Games with each other. Some of these games haven't been played since September and I challenged the students to tell me the rules to see if they could remember how the games were played! Everyone had so much fun this week! After the break, we will be diving into our new unit!

Check out our fun week ...

HAPPY MARCH BREAK!! two thumbs up

End of February!

Hello everyone!

This week at SJA I assessed the students on their soccer abilities. I looked at their ability to control the ball, stop the ball, dribble, score goals and had different expectations and "look-for's" for each grade level.

The students also learned how to skip in order to prep for Friday's Jump Rope for Heart!
Jump Rope for Heart was amazing and everyone had so much fun! Thank you all for participating and fundraising for the Heart and Stroke foundation!

February 21st

Hello everyone!

Although this week was a short week for us at SJA, the JK-3 PE classes accomplished a lot!

On Tuesday
- The JKs and SKs practiced their soccer skills by playing What Time is it Mr. Wolf with soccer balls! So instead of tagging each other when its 'lunchtime', the Wolf must kick their soccer ball to someone's feet. This works on their aim and kicking skills.
- Grade 1, 2 and 3 students participated in a soccer scrimmage to practice the skills we have learned over the last two weeks

On Wednesday
- The JKs and SKs did their weekly Yoga video which was Mermaid themed this week
- Grade 1-3 students had another soccer scrimmage - each class was divided into 3 teams and played for 3 minute intervals while rotating positions in order to experience all of the different positions on the field

On Thursday [Health]
- JKs learned how to identify themselves [girl/boy, green/orange, theta, zeta, kappa, etc.]
- SKs learned about the similarities and differences between themselves and their peers
- Grade 1's identified different body parts through riddles
- Grade 2's discussed how their bodies work and reflected on what they can do to keep their bodies healthy for the future
- Grade 3's learned about brain health and talked about Fight or Flight reactions as well as Concussions and overall brain health [will be continued next week]

On Friday
- As always, Friday is FUN FRIDAY which is when I allow the students to suggest games to play and take a vote to determine which games will be played.

Happy Valentine's Day & Family Day!!

Hello everyone!

This week at SJA...

All of the classes had SO much fun on Year Ahead Day and definitely seem excited to move on to their next year of school!

  • The JKs went bowling in PE but they had to kick the pins down with a soccer ball which allowed them to practice aiming at a target and using powerful kicks. They also enjoyed doing Star Wars Yoga on Wednesday and we had a very fun Thursday playing Duck Duck Goose.
  • The SKs got to try bowling with soccer balls but they also had their first soccer scrimmage where we emphasized teamwork and sportsmanship! On fun Thursday the SKs participated in a fitness activity and then chose to play Animal Tag.
  • The Grade 1's jumped right into their first scrimmage on Monday, and continued to practice what we learned in scrimmages on Tuesday and Wednesday. We took turns rotating teams on and off the field, communicated with one another and tried our best to spread out!
  • The Grade 2's also played soccer and really enjoyed learning about the different positions [goalie, defence, striker]. We really enforced sportsmanship while scrimmaging and the students did an excellent job working together and supporting one another.
  • The Grade 3's were able to play 2 scrimmages this week and did a fantastic job communicating, spacing out, and showing sportsmanship!

February!

Hello everyone!

This week at SJA:
  • The JKs performed the Hokey Pokey and then get introduced to dribbling and stopping a soccer ball. They learned to stop the ball by putting their foot on top and catching their balance. JKs also learned how to cheer on their classmates while scoring goals in Soccer!
  • The SKs both performed their version of the Chicken Dance and practiced dribbling a soccer ball, chasing it and stopping it. They also were taught how to properly score a goal in soccer! The SKs learned how to play games like Octopus and What Time is it Mr. Wolf with soccer ball.
  • The Grade 1's enjoyed learning how to stop their soccer ball from moving and cheering each other on when scoring goals! They also learned how to pass a soccer ball and identified which part of the foot is used to pass and shoot a soccer ball.
  • The Grade 2's were encouraged to go fast and slow with the ball, and practice stopping when I blew my whistle! They also learned how to pass a soccer ball using both feet and determined which of their feet was preferred to shoot a soccer ball.
  • The Grade 3's were working on finalizing their choreographed dance routine! We spent 10-15 minutes practicing our routine each class, then worked on soccer skills and sportsmanship. Grade 3's practiced dribbling, stopping, passing and shooting and will put these skills to the test next week when they have a soccer scrimmage.
